Daniel Guinchard heads for the UK’s fastest circuit this weekend [3-4 June] as the ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA travels to Thruxton.
Having taken the learnings from a character-building trip to Snetterton last time out, the 17-year-old from London heads for the 2.4-mile Hampshire venue looking to inject life into his title bid in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series, the first step on the Road to F1.
The Chris Dittmann Racing ace sits ninth overall in the standings heading to this, the fourth of ten race meetings on the schedule, but with every opportunity to progress in one of the closest seasons in recent years.
Characterised by its fast, flowing nature, with over 80% of the lap at full throttle, Thruxton is a true test of driver skill and commitment. It also has plenty of overtaking opportunities for those brave enough to take them, particularly on the brakes into the complex and the Club chicane at the end of the lap.
The high-speed venue is one that holds particularly fond memories for Guinchard, with two of his podium finishes in his rookie season last year coming at the Hampshire speed bowl.
After two practice sessions on Friday to get dialled in, the competitive action begins with qualifying at 11:05 (BST) on Saturday, with the opening race to follow at 16:10 that afternoon.
Sunday features two further, ITV4-televised races, with lights out at 13:00 and 16:30 respectively.
Daniel Guinchard said:
“After a tricky weekend at Snetterton, I’ve been itching to get back in the car and start making amends, so Thruxton can’t come soon enough, for me.
“It’s a circuit I really enjoy driving at and holds a special place for me as the circuit where I got my first overall podium in single seaters last year.
“We were on top of the times in testing here earlier this year, too, so I know the team at Chris Dittmann Racing will give me an excellent car, as always.
“This is a circuit where qualifying perhaps isn’t as essential to get results – you can race your way through here. But that said, it’s important for us after a tough weekend to go down and lay down a marker, so I’m going in on the offensive.”
